Sitar Player Researcher Educator
Hello! Welcome to my page.
I am a sitar player, music researcher and educator currently based in Melbourne, Australia.
My musical practice is rooted in Indian classical music, with a particular interest in improvisation, melody, rhythm and the possibilities of bringing different musical ideas together. Alongside performance, I teach sitar and work with students who are interested in learning the instrument and exploring Indian classical music.
My academic work is situated in ethnomusicology and cultural heritage, focusing on the ways music is transmitted, valued and sustained within communities. My current research explores the relationship between music, cultural heritage and cultural policy, with particular interest in music as intangible cultural heritage.
